We, the Church, are called to be Christ's representatives in the world. Through our words and actions, we must challenge individuals to commit their lives to Jesus Christ. We believe God creates and sustains us, saves and liberates us in Jesus Christ, and transforms and empowers us through the Holy Spirit. Responding to God's calling and nurtured by the faithful witness of the Old and New Testaments, we joyfully claim membership in the Body of Christ.
The First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury dates back to 1734. Our sanctuary, which is on the roster of Presbyterian historic buildings, was built in 1834. And the old cemetery behind our church gives history buffs an interesting glimpse of times gone by.
History gives the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury a firm foundation but has never been a replacement for current vitality. We are an active church member of the Presbyterian Church (USA), involved in Monmouth Presbytery, the Synod of the Northeast, and the General Assembly.
Read on to better learn about some of the important events and accomplishments in our church's history. Yet, these are only vehicles of God's work. It is a combination of people and events that make that work go forward. The Cranbury Church is rich in such human tradition. It is one of the founding churches in American Presbyterianism and a "mother church" to many of the churches in our area. Throughout its history, it has been in the vanguard of social progress and mission. It is our hope that our past heritage will inspire and challenge those of this generation who continue to do God's work. . . . .
