Open to those in seventh grade and older, this class prepares youth for membership in the PC(USA). Beginning in September, interested youth meet weekly for fellowship and faith reflection. A year long program offers youth time to explore the history of the Presbyterian faith, provides mission experiences within the congregation, and fosters the development of individual faith stories.
Our Confirmation Program is a time of study, service, fellowship, and spiritual exploration. It is an important time when students in seventh grade and higher learn more about the Christian faith and what it means to be a member of the church. Our biblical curriculum is based on the Study Catechism of the Presbyterian Church (USA), approved by the General Assembly in 1998.
Confirmands receive their adult Bible during worship when confirmed. Class meets weekly on Sundays from the first day of Sunday School in September through June. At the end of the year, each student is given the opportunity to join our congregation. This is a personal decision that needs to be made when one is ready. God calls us to membership at different ages, and we want to honor the uniqueness of each young person.
In addition to attending confirmation class and worship, students are invited to participate in a retreat and to visit and worship in another Christian denomination. Service projects are included throughout the year, such as the Fall and Spring Work Day at church, preparing Thanksgiving Baskets for those in need in our local community, contributing to Operation Christmas Child, and helping lead the service at the Easter Sunrise service and Sunday School and Youth Sunday.
A very important component of fellowship in the Confirmation Program is the participation of mentors, seasoned adults who are paired with students and share their reflections on the church and contemporary Christian life during three fellowship dinners and an activity.
